The Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce marked its 60th anniversary in unforgettable style on 15 November 2025, hosting the Business Excellence Awards Gala at the breathtaking Kimpton Seafire Resort & Spa. It was a night of elegance, energy, and inspiration—a true showcase of Cayman’s thriving business community.
From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere was electric. The ballroom shimmered under soft golden lights; tables dressed in crisp linens and vibrant floral arrangements. Laughter mingled with the clink of glasses as leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs gathered to celebrate not just success, but the spirit of collaboration and resilience that defines Cayman.
Spotlight on Excellence
The evening’s program honoured businesses and individuals who have gone above and beyond, raising the bar for innovation, service, and community impact. Among the highlights were two standout moments: Progressive Distributors Ltd earning the coveted Business of the Year award, and Berna Thompson Cummins, MBE, receiving the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by Health City Cayman Islands.
Progressive Distributors’ recognition reflects a legacy of excellence and adaptability in a competitive market. Meanwhile, Berna’s award was a heartfelt tribute to decades of service in education, civic leadership, and business—a story that resonates deeply with Cayman’s own journey.
But this was far from a two-spotlight show. The gala celebrated winners across nine competitive categories, each representing the diversity and dynamism of Cayman’s economy:
Small Business of the Year: Global Captive Management Ltd
Entrepreneur of the Year: Women’s Haven
Marketing Campaign: Cayman Finance
Innovation Award: Cayman National Bank
Community Impact Award: Health City Cayman Islands
Commitment to Education: Cayman Islands Health Services Authority
Training Champion: Cayman Islands Health Services Authority
ESG Award: RF Bank & Trust
Runners-up—including Cayman Airways, Corporate Electric, Rocky’s Diamond Gallery, and the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort—added to the excitement, proving that excellence runs deep across our islands.
A Legacy Honoured
The most emotional moment of the evening came when Berna Thompson Cummins took the stage. Her acceptance speech was humble yet powerful:“Life is short, and we are put here to help each other and let our light shine. I challenge all the ladies here tonight: join the Chamber Council. We need more female presidents.”
Berna’s story is woven into Cayman’s history. From her years as Principal of Triple C School to her leadership on boards like UCCI and the National Museum, she has shaped institutions and inspired generations. In a moving tribute video, Berna recalled stepping into the family business with her brother ALT in her twenties:“They said, ‘You are not going to make it.’ It was quite a challenge, but we worked together and thank God we became successful.”
Her integrity and service were recognised in 1991 when she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire. Today, her influence continues through her children and nine grandchildren—a true Caymanian icon.
Voices of Leadership
The evening was punctuated by messages of inspiration. Chamber President Omari Corbin set the tone early:“Tonight is about honouring those who have gone above and beyond—those businesses and individuals who remind us what is possible when we aim high, work hard, and stay true to our principles.”
Premier Hon. Andre Ebanks reaffirmed the partnership between government and business:“Together, we will continue to create opportunities for our people, support innovation, and uphold the Cayman Islands’ reputation as a place where business and community flourish side by side.”
And Chamber CEO Wil Pineau, who has led the organisation since 1994, reflected on the Chamber’s journey:“Tonight is not only a celebration of the past. It is a tribute to the people, the programs, and the purpose that have shaped the Chamber over six decades.”
Sponsors and Support
The gala’s success was made possible by the generous support of sponsors, including Health City Cayman Islands, whose commitment to community and excellence mirrors the values celebrated at the event. Their sponsorship of the Lifetime Achievement Award underscored the importance of honouring those who have paved the way for future generations.
A Night to Remember
As the evening drew to a close, guests lingered over dessert and conversation, reflecting on the achievements celebrated and the friendships strengthened. The Business Excellence Awards were more than an event—they were a statement of confidence in Cayman’s future.
Looking Ahead
As the Chamber enters its seventh decade, the message is clear: Cayman’s business community thrives on vision, collaboration, and a shared commitment to excellence. Here’s to the next 60 years of progress, partnership, and prosperity!
